Post Your Resume
Here are some tips that will accelerate your job hunt:
• Always have an up-to-date resume and testimonials ready so that you don’t have to ransack your credentials when a golden opportunity is knocking at the door.
• Make use of the career counseling services. They can help you enhance your skills and assist you with your self-assessment.
• Have both soft and hard copies of your cv ready to edit. So that you can change the skills and potentials according to the employer’s needs. Of course, the information you provide has to be true. Don’t provide any wrong or false information about yourself and previous job experiences.
• Use e-mailed job listing services.
• Use your set of connections. Keep in mind that not all jobs are posted or advertised in websites or newspapers. Spread the news that you are looking for a job among your friends and acquaintances.
Negotiate your salary :
It is very important for anyone who is planning to take up a job. Follow these tips when you are going to sit for an interview.
• Don’t feel shy to ask. Remember, if you don’t ask for it, you won’t get it.
• Have a clear idea about your market value and ask the recruiter the budget range of the position you are being interviewed for.
• Do not state your expected salary until you’re asked. If the interviewer insists, quote an amount which is no less than your current salary. (Not applicable for first time interviewees.)
• Do not discuss the salary matter if you are not interested in the company.
• Don’t make a swift decision. Ask the employer to allow you a few days to consider the amount.
• Take the benefits into account. Such as, health insurance, vacation days and sick days, retirement savings plans, bonus plans, stock options, etc.
• Be honest in your negotiation. Do not lie about your previous salary package.
• If you and the recruiter agree on an offer, keep a record of it. Ask for the agreement in writing, sign two copies and keep one with you.
• Be very courteous in your behaviour. Show your gratitude to the employer by thanking him with a gentle smile.
